She keeps up to date on what is happening in the fashion and textile industry to be certain that she is looking at the most current style concepts. With information and research done, the searching begins. Several times a year, Trish travels to some of the best design showrooms in the United States. The close proximity of MHB to Manhattan's garment district has been extremely beneficial. Her travels have taken her to various locations across the country. Once inside the showroom, she looks at hundreds of fabrics taking several things into consideration.
Durability: In order for fabrics to be selected for our collection, they must have strength and durability. We know our bags are going to be used in a number of ways and we strive to make sure they can stand the test of time and use.
Color: Of course we look for amazing colors! We take care to make sure that the fabric collection covers a wide variety of options to meet personal tastes, styles, and trends.
Pattern: When choosing a pattern there are a few things to consider. The first is scale. If the pattern is too large in scale, it will not show well on some of our smaller bags and accessories.
When looking at a patterned fabric, we also take direction into consideration. If a fabric has a true top and bottom, such as a tree for instance, we will not select it. Some handbag styles are made with one piece of fabric that wraps from one side to the other. What is right side up on one side of the bag, will definitely look upside down on the other!
Texture: The texture of fabrics is extremely important to us. There is nothing more fabulous than a bag that not only looks great, but feels amazing to touch! With that said, we also have some guidelines that we follow. We first look at the weave. The fabric must be of a fairly tight weave to withstand all those things we put into our handbags. We want to make sure that seams stay tight and intact. We also look at the texture to make sure that it won't snag and pull with normal use. If a pattern has a raised texture and has fabric variations that make us think it may cause a problem, it stays in the showroom.
Compatibility: When looking at fabrics, we don't just pick the ones we love. We also consider the fabrics that are already in the collection. We work to make sure there are many design options and that many fabric choices truly complement each other. This will guarantee that you will have no problem pairing fabrics and putting together endless design possibilities.
